As a Police Officer turned Web Developer, Brooks has developed a unique perspective when it comes to crafting a compelling message. With a computer and determination, Brooks taught himself to code four years ago to build a campaign website. Influenced by his desire to start a new life with his wife and raise a family, he aspires to pursue his passion, solving complex problems, and creating beautiful designs
(As told by Lydia & Brooks)
I was majoring in International Business at the University of Houston Downtown. My goal was to graduate without student loan debt, so I worked three jobs. One day after taking a class, I met Marcel, who owned Wired Net Technologies. He asked me to do certain tasks thinking this was going to be temporary. I excelled in this field and he offered me a job, shortly after.
Initially, I had no intent in working in a cold server room, but after some time, I quickly grew to become an IT consultant. In this role, I worked with some of the largest corporations and non-profits in the Houston area. No one calls IT unless there’s a problem. I enjoyed working under pressure and creating unique solutions.
At the time, I attended high school in Houma, Louisiana. I kept to myself, breaking and fixing my dad’s computer. Until August of that year, Hurricane Katrina hit south Louisiana, and we moved to Houston, Texas.
After graduating with a bachelor’s in International Business and no debt, I decided to pursue my passion for acting. I auditioned and was cast to play a NASA scientist in the Great American Moonrock Caper. On the day of filming, I met Brooks. I was the first one to say, “Hello,” and Brooks kept me laughing all day. I didn’t think anything of it at the time until Brooks asked me to another production to stay in touch… And, so it began.
After high school, I needed to pay for college, so I did what every normal college kid does and started working in a Texas prison. I was cast as a NASA employee for an independent film being made in Houston. In the early morning of June 24, 2009, I showed up at the filming and sat next to my future wife. Needless to say, after I met Lydia, I lost all desire to become an actor.
The days turned into months, and the months turned into years. Brooks and I had been together for almost six years. I was acting full time, and Brooks was a cop. I applied to attend one of the most prestigious acting schools in the country, Stella Adler, in New York City. After a couple of months, an interview, and audition, I was accepted to attend. I flew out to NYC to learn with some of the best in the biz.
Around 2010 I got out of prison and graduated to working at a Sheriff’s Office. I attended the police academy during the day and worked in the jail at night. In March of 2015, I volunteered my time to develop a campaign website for a candidate running for Sheriff. I created a content marketing calendar, weekly blog posts, and SEO that increased public awareness of his stance on key issues.
We got married on a hot Vegas night! In front of family and friends. We had spent our young adulthood with each other and wanted to spend our lives together. The work schedules and being apart for most of the week started us thinking about our future. We had goals, and we knew we needed to decide on how we could achieve them together. We are a perfect match. Separate strengths combined, making a wonderful team.
Eight years being together, Lydia and I decided to tie the knot. We thought long and hard about our future, hopes, and dreams. I love helping people as a cop, but it’s a tough life to live. I wanted to afford more time at home to raise a family with my wife. Being an officer with the long hours, stress, and sacrifice you and your family have to make, we thought it would be a good time to transition careers.
After serving my community for almost ten years, I decided to go back to my first passion, coding. I started every day at 6 am writing coding until noon, went on patrol at 2 pm and got off at midnight and repeated this every day of the week.
After Brooks spending two years in web design and I assisting on the business end, we decided to join forces to build Stellatus Studios. I enjoy complex problem solving and all my past experiences I bring into our business end. I get to solve problems and create with the person I trust most. What could be better!
With Lydia and I providing web design, SEO, & brand strategy for the past two years, we decided to turn Stellatus Studios into a reality. I still wake up at 6 am, but I love what I do and what we create. I love the challenges every client brings to the table, and the best part I get to work with my best friend and wife, Lydia.
This is a story about the American Dream. Everything we have done has brought us to this point in our lives. As the owners of Stellatus Studios, we believe we can only achieve success by genuinely helping our clients succeed. That is the cornerstone of every decision we make.
